"The Lottery Summary"
The short story "The Lottery"by Shirley Jackson takes place in a small village of about 300 people during the summer. It tells the story of the townspeople, a group of superstitious people who want to get something called the lottery over with. The townspeople are part of a lottery where the chosen person is stoned to death. Some of the people want to get rid of it, but they think that the lottery brings them crops and good luck. The townspeople must do the lottery, a series of pulling paper from a box that will eventually choose one person. In order to achieve this, The people first pull out papers from the black box, and then read them and call out another person to pull a paper. Then, you repeat this again. Finally someone will get a white paper with a black dot on it and the others will get blank papers, This person is chosen. As the story ends, the person who is stones is Ms. Hutchinson, the comedic person in the group who tries to bring joy in a time of despair.
