This week in English and language arts class we learned a lot. Ms. Stronks was absent two days, so we had Ms. Lopez as our substitute on Wednesday and Thursday. We have a pronouns test on Friday about everything we've learned up to this point on pronouns. A lot of pronoun rules I already knew, but I had trouble on some other stuff. I have been studying for a while, and think I am ready. Pronouns are words that take the place of a person, place, or thing in a sentence. Some of the rules I had a hard time on are intensive and reflexive pronouns. Intensive pronouns intensify their antecedents, while reflexive pronouns reflect on their antecedents. An example of an intensive pronoun is "I myself like going to the beech every Sunday and swimming in the nice calm ocean". An example of a reflexive pronoun in " I really enjoyed myself last Saturday when I was at the beach swimming in the really nice, calm ocean. We also had our class party on Thursday. We had a really good time eating pizza, cupcakes, and mini-corn dogs. Our vocal this week was a four corner assignment about Lent. We chose four words that have to do with lent and define them, do a special assignment on them, and put a picture with them. Also, we have been working on a map for Maycomb, Alabama. This city is a fictional one that takes place during the Great Depression, in the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. We have to draw everything, and have quotes for everything. Getting quotes is really easy, because Zebedee's Ipad has a search function. He has been using this search function to easily find all of the quotes that we need to explain where people live in Maycomb.
