Locked in Man Summary
The Story Locked-In Man by Invisibilia, place in South Africa during the late 80’s. It tells the story of Martin Pistorious, a person who is trapped in his body unable to move for twelve years, who wants to be able to do his own things instead of people doing it for him. He must fight against Cryptococci Meningitis, a disease rendering him unable to move. First, Martin Pistorious was a young boy who wanted to become an “electric man”. At the age twelve, he came home with a sore throat and began not eating and always sleeping. He got worse and worse until he slept all the time except when his parents kept him awake. After that, they took him to the doctors, who were doing tests. Eventually, one came positive and it turned out he had Cryptococci Meningitis. The doctors told the parents to just keep him comfortable until he dies. They kept him comfortable and he kept living for twelve years, unable to move. He may not have been able to move but he was completely aware of what was going on around him. Next, he was eventually able to squeeze his hand a little and a nurse noticed. They called the parents and took him to the doctors who said even though he has control, he still has the brain of a three year old. Finally, he gets a computer to help him talk, and he gets married and writes a book about his life.
