Chapter four and five of the Saint John Eudes packet, really explained how popular and amazing Saint John Eudes was. Saint John Eudes was on his way back from Paris, when news got to him that there was a plague breaking out in Seez. No priest dared to go and help, except Saint John Eudes. He and his mentor, Berulle, both agreed that he should go and help. Saint John Eudes received a message from God to help others. Soon, the plague spread a Caen, Saint John Eudes went back to where he studied to live with the plagued there. The plagued were quarantined outside the city, so Saint John Eudes lived with them in a barrel. He believed that is was the will of God for him to do this.He befriended Gaston de Renty, which was an ordinary man who also had a call from God to help the sick. One wierd thing is that he wasn't a priest! Only one person in the city would feed Saint John Eudes, and that person was Madame Laurence de Budos. SHe owned the field that the people were staying in. People were starting to get lazy, and not living the way God wanted them to. The thing that tied these three together is what we call universal holiness. Saint John Eudes then lives out his live as a priest be saying over 100 missions to thousand of people, and writing many books about how to live your life. The difference that these books made was huge, considering he fact that people could actually follow what it said easily. He was the only priest who would personally do confession, and insisted to do them in the persons home.
