Harrison Bergeron Summary
The short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut takes place in the United States during 2081. It tells the story of Harrison Bergeron, an extremely strong and smart 14 year old, who wants to be the leader of the United States because everyone has handicaps to make them equal to all the others. He fights against Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, in order to achieve his goal. First, Harrison is taken away to jail. Then, during a live show saying he escaped, he appeared in front of the camera. After that he ripped a cord strong enough to hold 5,000 pounds and off came all his handicaps. Next he marries a ballerina, and start dancing. Finally, Diana Moon Glampers shoots them both with a ten gauge shotgun, and they both die. As the story ends, Harrisson’s mom witness his death but forgets because she can only think in short thoughts.
